Every design is different, chosen by hand, and most are never posted online, so there’s far more in store on Main Street, Nadi than you’ll see here. Seen something on our socials? Message us a screenshot and we’ll tell you if it’s still here.

Some earrings never come out, like the small studs or hoops worn to work, to the shops and to sleep. Others come out only for weddings, Diwali and family functions. Most people end up wanting a pair of each, and 22ct gold suits both.

Styles

Studs

Small earrings that sit on the lobe. They are comfortable all day, don't catch on clothes or hair, and are a popular first pair of gold earrings and a common gift for girls. Our post on gold gifts for birthdays, graduations and new babies has more gift ideas.

Balis (hoops)

Balis are hoop earrings, from small, plain everyday hoops to larger twisted or patterned designs. Smaller balis are easy to wear daily. Larger ones look good with both Western clothes and a salwar kameez or sari.

Jhumka

Jhumka are bell-shaped drop earrings, often with fine detail and small hanging beads. They move as you do, and are a favourite for weddings and festivals. They can be worn with a bridal set or on their own with a plain outfit. Designs in the shop change, so call and ask if you are coming in for jhumka.

What to look for

The 916 stamp

22ct gold is stamped 916 (91.6% pure). Earrings are small, so the stamp may be tiny, on the post, the hook or the back. All our gold pieces carry a purity stamp. Read what the numbers mean.

Size

Larger earrings make more of a statement. For everyday wear, choose something light and comfortable. For a wedding, think about how many hours they will be worn, and try them on before deciding. If the earrings are part of a bridal look, choose them alongside the necklace set so they balance.

Backs and fastenings

Check that the backs feel secure and are easy for the wearer to open and close. This matters most for children's earrings and for anyone who wears them every day.

Wearing and caring for gold earrings

22ct gold is rich and pure, so treat it kindly. Ease posts and hooks in gently.

  • Put earrings in after hairspray and perfume.
  • Take larger earrings out before sleeping, swimming and exercise.
  • Store pairs together in a small box or pouch so you don't lose one.
  • Clean the posts gently and wipe with a soft dry cloth.

Buying earrings on a trip home

Earrings are easy to pack and make good gifts to take back to Australia, New Zealand, the USA or Canada.

  1. Make a list of who you are buying for and whether they want studs, balis or something for an occasion.
  2. Call or email ahead on +679 806 4660 or info@shreejifiji.com if you are after a particular style.
  3. Come in early in your trip so you have time to try a few pairs and come back if you want to think it over.

If you are visiting on a non-Fiji passport and the earrings stay boxed until you fly, you may be able to claim the VAT back at the airport; our Tourist VAT Refund Scheme guide has the rules.

At the counter

If you are matching a necklace set or an outfit, bring it or a photo. Buying for a child, tell us the age so we can show you light studs with secure backs. For jhumka, plan to wear a pair for a few minutes before you decide.
